Beauty Box 5 Review/ First Impressions: May 2017
Hey Guys,
So today for my blog post I thought I would do a little review and or first impressions of Beauty Box 5. Beauty Box 5 is a subscription service where you can get mini and full size beauty products for $12 a month. Or if you wait until around Christmas time to subscribe they always have some sort of deal where it works out to be only around $10 a month. No this is not sponsored, just saying, I have been subscribed to Beauty Box 5 since 2014. So I thought I would show you what was in the box this month and what I thought and all that happy stuff.
In this months box, there was five full size items and a bonus mini item. The box total value came to $51.44, plus the bonus item which was the price was not included. Here is the overview of the box as a whole before I go into the individual items:
Retail Price: $12.99
Product Description: "You can never have too many lipsticks, babe! This long-lasting formula will remain flawlessly in place throughout the warmest summer night. Pair with winged liner, a soft cheek, and your favorite little black dress!"
Review/Impressions: To start it is in the shade Rioja. So my first thought looking at the tube of lipstick I thought it was dark. When I swatched it on my hand, it was darker than I thought it would be but it also had a slight pink tint. However when I put it on, it was more pink which I do not mind. It stays on very long I put this on and it stained my lips till the next morning. The side of the box says that you can wash it off with soap and water and it comes off easily. However I tried that with the swatch on my hand and it stained my hand and did not come off until I washed my hands four more times. Overall, it is a great product if you need a lipstick to stay on for a long time this a great one to choose. I personally do not like wearing lipsticks and probably will not get a lot of use out of it. But it goes on easily and has a nice applicator sponge, and an added bonus it smells by vanilla frosting for all you cake lovers!!
Second Item: Jersey Shore Cosmetics: Mongongo Lip Conditioner
Retail Price: $10.00
Product Description: "BB5 Tip: moisturize before and after liquid lipstick. We love organic balm because it's all-natural packed with nutrients and smells like coconut -- perfect to throw in your beach bag!"
Review/Impressions: At first look it just looks like any other chapstick, and after using it I agree. It works just like every other chapstick I have used and it moisturizes my lips and works very well. However it does not smell like coconut like the description says I smell more of the vanilla scent because it is vanilla coconut cream. I love chapstick so this was defiantly a good thing to be included in this months box. I don't know if it was worth the $10 though when you can get the same success in a cheaper product.
Third Item: Daily Concepts: Exfoliating Body Scrubber
Retail Price: $5.00
Product Description: "Hello, vacay skin! Buff away roughness and cleanse deeply with this dual-texture scrubber that works for all skin types -- even sensitive! The smart label will fade when it's time to replace."
Review/Impressions: So when I first saw this product I was super excited because I like to exfoliate my legs after I shave them to just make them softer and remove any dead skin that may be left over. So when I tried it it left my skin super smooth and took away the dead skin. It worked really well. However, if you have sensitive skin, like myself, even though it says it works for sensitive skin, it does leave a lot of scratches and red marks that stayed on my legs the rest of the day. It kind of irritated my skin a little but I would use it again because it left my skin soft. In my opinion, this product is worth the $5, because it worked well and left me with soft skin even with the scratch marks and redness because of my sensitive skin.
Fourth Item: Jelly Pong Pong: Bare Necessities Highlighting Pencil
Retail Price: $17.95
Product Description: "Use this versatile peachy pencil as an eyeshadow base, highlighter, and concealer! For an instant wide-awake look, glide onto inner and outer corners, then blend, or pop it in your waterline!"
Review/Impressions: So to start off sorry I could not get a picture of any of the ways I used it except when I swatched it on my hand it was way too light to show up in the photo. I used it as a eyeshadow base and it worked really well, especially if you use a lot of pink or purple toned shadows like myself. It also worked really well as an inner corner if you do want a duller highlight, not a full highlight. They say you can use it as a highlight but I attempted it on my cheek bone and the color just did not show up, it may be because it is more a creamy texture, but I do not think it would work as a highlight. It can be used as a concealer if you have that color skin but I do not so it did not work for me. Overall, I really liked this product for eyeshadow use. The only thing that would make me hesitant to purchase it without getting it in a box is the price, if you have an eyeshadow palette you most likely have a base color and will not need this but it is a really nice color and I like it a lot.
Fifth Item: Nana Coco: Jumbo Eye & Lip Pencil
Retail Price: $5.50
Product Description: "Switch up your spring style with bright pigments that can be applied to eyes and lips! Buff on lids for shadow, glide onto waterline for liner, or gently dust on the top of a lipstick for a metallic finish."
Review/Impressions: When I first looked at this product in the box I thought it was going to be a gold color but when I swatched it on my hand it came out more orange, which I am not about. However, when I tried it on my eye it came out more a brown toned color, and I actual liked it on my eye lid. Although my lips are a different story, the product is dual purpose, it was a very orangey color that I do not like. It also comes off easily, which depending on the person when it comes to lip products may be a pro or a con. I will only use this product as an eyeshadow color to mix with other shadows, I would not use as a lip color. Overall, it is a good product that goes on well, I would purchase this in another shade or this shade because it is a good price for the amount of pencil you get.
BONUS ITEM: Arnica Salve: Skin Cream
Review/ Impressions: There was no retail price listed or product description because it was a bonus item to the box this month. This product has a vaseline type texture and smell, which is ok with me because it works really well. I used this on my hands and feet, it really made them soft and smooth. It works really well and overall I really like this product. I would buy a full size one in the future.
Overall this months box would be rated a 4/5. The only reason I did not rate it a 5/5 is because I would not use the liquid lipstick but all the other products were good and were products I would be able to use on a regular basis. Thank you guys for reading this blog post. If you have any other questions about my opinions on the products just let me know in the comments. Thank you all for the continued support and see you in my next post!
Much love,
Ally
